Ummmmm well how about we don’t! How about we let the 12 year old girl remain a negative “A” cup until she gets down on her knees and prays that she wants some breasts. As opposed to me just waking up one morning to Double D’s perched atop my previously flat chest. And ohhhh did the boys love them….and the girls too. Boys thought they were so sexy. Girls thought they were grown up. I thought they were water-filled balloons that I just wanted to pop all day, every day. Although I have grown to love them, not 100% yet, to this day I still want to pop them sometimes.
As my boobies hide my small waist and hinder me from wearing a number of tops, dresses and bathing suits, I always wanted them to be smaller. Over the years though, I have learned to love and embrace them for what they are and what they make me. From providing breast exams, to taking my bra off at night, and purchasing some what of a cute piece, I have made it a priority to take care of the watermelon jugs that I have been blessed with.
This includes providing them with the best support that my girls could ask for. Underwire, thick straps and a snap back the size of Antartica, were all necessities for a good bra. Or so I thought…..I thought that with gaps in the side of my bra, the underwire in good condition and the back of my bra touching my neck was what was indeed correct for my breasts.
That is….before….I….went….for….my……bra fitting….at……bratenders. And…..
MY LIFE CHANGED…
Before bratenders, this is how I lived my bra life. Thinking I was doing something for my breasts, thinking that I was somewhat sexy, and thinking that my breasts were being as supported as possible.
Ohhhhh, poor me…..poor breasts…..
I was doing myself and my breasts a disservice.
Doooot doooo dooooooooo…..Bratenders to the rescue. Look at my babies now….look at how they sit up, look at how they’re supported!! Look at how much fuller and perched atop my chest they look. Thank you to the bra fairies at bratenders that saved my watermelon beauties!!
Sizing, Sizing, Sizing
A large percentage of women have breasts that are different sizes. If this is you, remember that this is very normal. Did you know your cup size varies based on your band size? A 34C is actually the same cup size as a 36B. This system of sizing is called sister sizing. If your band is too big with a 36B bra, we'll suggest you try a 34C, not a 34B, because the cup sizes are the same. 36B is the same cup as 34C. 38A is the same cup as 36B and 34C and 32D.
There's a Right Way to Put on a Bra
Hooking the band at the front of your torso and spin it around is a huge NO, NO! Hook your bra in at your back so you are not having to twist and deform your bra. The most effective way to make sure you’re properly filling the cups and lifted into the correct place is to bend over slightly at your waist as you hook in the back of the bra, and then to use your hands to scoop your breasts into each cup. The cup should fully encapsulate each breast without any spillage over the sides or top of the cups. If you do have spillage or gapping, you may need a different size bra.
Get Fitted Often
A woman’s bra size can change often many times in her life. To ensure that you’re wearing the right size, you need to be fitted regularly. Getting fitted by a professional is extremely effective. Be sure to make sure that they are indeed a certified bra fitter. Please find great resource that I found, at this link, which provides information on bra fit tips and tests.
If it Fits Like a Gloooovvvveeee…....
A bra that fits perfectly is like a favorite pair of jeans. You need more than one! Having multiple bras will cut down on the daily wear and tear and actually make your bras last longer by spreading out how often each individual bra is worn. Buy a backup or two. You’ll thank me, and yourself, later.
Every woman should have a few essential types of bras.
These include a smooth, t- shirt bra, which is usually an everyday bra for most women, a sports bra, utilized for workout and physical activities, a strapless bra, if it indeed comes in your size, a leisure bra, in which you can hang around and be your most comfortable in, and of course, a black bra that can fittingly go with your go to black dress.
T-shirt or your everyday bra is the bra you naturally reach for on a daily basis. It is the bra that you cannot see under your t-shirt, silk blouses or that fitted t-shirt dress. It’s basically invisible.
It is suggested to have 2 black and 2 nude everyday bras. I’d say if you find one that fits you well and you love it, buy as many of that particular style as you can! Usually bras become discontinued and you will never be able to find it again. If you have purchased a few of them, you will have some of your faves to last you for a good while. In my recent “brascapade”, I purchased three of my faves. I plan on returning back to buy a few more in a few weeks. I will keep three in rotation and as a need basis and keep the others in the stash.
A sports bra is essential when engaging in a fitness or physical activity. Depending on the impact of the activity, will determine the level of support that you will need. High impact involvement, such as jumping or running, require a high impact bra and vice versa for a low or medium level impact activity such as yoga or pilates.
If you are full busted, like myself, look for bras that hold the entire breast. It should individually hold each breast and not give you a uniboob. Upbra suggests that the more times you workout a during the week, the more bras you will need in your rotation. Obviously right. Lol. They also suggest that you can wear your bra 1-3 times before washing. I wouldn’t suggest this though because the build up of sweat is one, disgusting, and it can cause you to have back, chest and arm acne.
Having your girls hang in the air with minimal support seems like something that most women wouldn’t want to do. Whether you have itty bitties or big ol’ litties, having a strapless bra that holds your girls up and aloft is what matters. It should feel just as sweet and comfortable as any other bra that you put on. Now me, myself, I am not a fan of strapless bras. I just feel that if I cannot wear a regular bra with it, it just isn’t meant for me to wear. Tugging and fixing all day and night isn’t for me either, and surely shouldn’t be for you.
If the tugging and pulling is happening to you, regardless of your breast size, this is a sure sign that the bra is the wrong size, type, or even both. Bra Tenders informs us that there are strapless bras up to a G cup that provide the lift, support and comfort that we want in a great bra. Although this is the case, strapless bras beyond a G cup do not exist. If all structures of support from the sides and back, there is no way to boost up the bust at a size larger than a G. Therefore ladies, strap those bigger than G cup breasties down with a a baby wrap. Surely if they can hold up a 30 pound baby, they can hold up breasts larger than a size G cup….right? Hehehe!
That black dress that is in your closet for the day you need it shall be paired with your go to black bra that will be in your bra drawer. Its versatility allows you to feel flirty and feminine all of the time. Whether with lace or not, it provides you with a neutral go to option that can take you from a work day to a date.
Caring for Your Bras
In the sink, mix a sink full of water with mild soap. Forever New is a great soap because it preserves the elasticity because of the polymers that it holds. You can also use baby detergent. (You should use this on all of your undergarments.) Fully rinse your bra and air dry it.
Hand washing is much gentler than a machine and will help your bras last far longer. But if you just can’t be bothered, at the very least use a lingerie bag in the machine. Above all, NEVER put your bras in the dryer.
For any bra with foam cups don’t turn the cups inside out when you put them away or pack them. Also don’t twist the cups around to fit inside each other when storing them. Instead, stack your bras in your drawer or suitcase so they retain their shape and smooth silhouette.
I highly suggest that you go and get yourself a certified professional bra fitting before you purchase anymore bras. Here a just a few great choices to shop once you have been sized!
The black Nike sports bra even goes up to a size 2XL!
Although there are bra washer bags, I hang dry my bras. I mean I hang dry everything….especially my bras though. I find that this keeps my bras in fine “working” condition, keeps their shape and allows them to look and feel new each and every time I put one on.
Also, check out those shoulder cushions!! These will keep you from having those bra lines on your shoulders girlssssss!
