Ten toes dangling off the edge of the jagged, rocky-edged platform, curls blowing in the wind, with nothing behind me, and as if the law of gravity had nothing to do with me…..I hesitated to jump of the 17,000-foot mountain. Shaking in my Nike socks and boots, I was scared “poop-less”, yet I was ready to take the leap. I had to be. My teeny weeny life hung in that very balance.
I have always been a person who had hopes, dreams and desires. I have also always been a person who doubted herself and filled her being with fear.
A major part of my 2018 year has been centered around working on my personal growth, smashing through fear and listening to my own inner positivity voice! Geared towards self-love, self-care and pushing my personal boundaries in positive motions, my 2018 has been filled to the brim and tested to the max, allowing me to take hops, jumps and leaps towards my most authentic self.
Living the life you want often means making some big changes in some parts of your life. These areas may include your health and wellness lifestyle, career, relationships, or even location.
Paired with making changes in your life is usually some sort of fear. Encompassing feelings of fear around the failure to see a shift in the implementation of change, if the change will be something that you really want, as well as the ultimate fear of the unknown.
Ultimately, if you want to make a change in your life, you must take that jump! Thinking towards this, my thoughts go to Santiago from my favorite book, The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho. As he believes that the dream that he is continuously having is prophetic, he takes a journey to find a treasure that is said to be his in his dream. Within all of his experiences on his journey, ups, downs and the merrier, Santiago learns so many gems and realizes his true self. Me, I am on a similar journey as Santiago.
The jump, or leap, starts itself upon the premise that something in your life is not going right or just needs some uplifting and heightening. According to Dr. Jim Taylor, the leap continues with, well, confidence, that you can change your life. The leap involves having a basic belief in yourself and a fundamental trust in the vision of who, what, and where you want to be in the future. Put those images on your vision board girls!! Dr. Taylor goes on to further say, that you should also regularly dream about the new life that you envision and how wonderful it will feel to find that which you seek. The leap will then initiate a positive upward spiral that will transform your leap into a growing confidence that you can and will change your life for the better.
Here are a few tips that have helped me along the way:
Light Your Inner Fire…..Reconnect with your inner voice. That positive and motivating voice that is. The voice that yells how fly you are when you look into the mirror. That voice that tells you to keep going and workout for another 30 minutes when all you want to do is quit. That voice that tells you to apply for that job when you can only check off one of the qualifications out of the twenty that are listed. (and then you get the job of course!) This tiny, yet loud voice is what we need to reconnect with and drown out all of the other noise.
Feel Empowered…..To reach for the stars, the moon, the entire universe. Make a plan as to what it is that you want to do. Write down your wants, goals and desires. Scream it out to the universe, ALL Day, EVERYDAY. Think about what has made you achieve the successes that you have already achieved in your life. Dig deep from that place to provide you with the strength, determination and power to feeling empowered!
Take Action….True transformation only happens with action. One step, or even a half of a step brings y0u that much closer to your goal(s). You just have to take that first move though….and all it takes is YOU !
Goalcast, a resource that I have recently come across that spreads a wealth of knowledge around reaching your highest potential, suggests
7 Steps Towards Overcoming Your Fears:
1. Acknowledge your fears
2. Understand why you feel the fear in the first place
3. Imagine the consequences of not overcoming your fear
4. Visualize what your life would be like if you had what you desired
5. Change your perspective and see failure as an opportunity
6. Surround yourself with positive people
7. Take action (immediately)

As your year comes to a close, ask yourself, what is a part of your life that you would like to completely change or bring to the next level? What fears must you overcome in order to make the first steps? What leap would be required to make that change a reality? Provide yourself with the responses that first come to your mind and from your heart. Move forward in making changes in your life on your own accord, all of course while being,
