If you see a red bag, pick it out,
If you see a pair of red shoes, pick them out,
If you see a purple bag, pick it out,
If you see a purple pair of shoes, pick them, out!
Me, intentionally pick out a pair of shoes with a matching bag….I would never! Well let me not say never because in high school, I was all about the matchy, matchy. Every Jordan had to have a matching bag and/or coat. I had to match to the tee. It wasn’t until I got into college that I began to move away from match city. Yea Hampton University!!! The REAL HU!!
It just didn’t feel right anymore. I just started to do me and that led to me wearing whatever shoes that I wanted with whichever bag that I wanted. If it felt right and looked right to me, I pranced out my dorm room, out of my apartment and currently out of my condo to the match of my own tune.
I recently put this blue number together and as I dressed myself for my day, it was time to choose some shoes and a bag. Going through my selection of shoes, I had to decide which would be the lucky pair today. Consistently shying away from the red ones on a number of looks because I thought it would just be too much, I kept deciding against theme. I tried my cat kitten heels, my timbs and even my Nike 370’s. To no avail. Something just wasn’t hitting.
My bag choice usually comes after my shoe choice, therefore, I hadn’t decided on a bag as of yet. With time slowly passing me by, my red booties were glistening in the beams of the Saturday morning sun. Let’s see how these look. Doubting every inch of my fashion sense, I shuffled to my mirror to check the damage I had done. Not bad is what I thought to myself as I saw the red actually make the hues of red in my dress and shirt pop out even more.
Onto my bag. I definitely didn’t want to do anything red at this point because of all the red I had already had on. Who was calling me though? My large, RED heart bag. Yup, she was. Ohhhh let’s see about this I thought as I made my way back to my mirror. I couldn’t believe that the combination of all the reds, the same hues of red at that, actually felt good together. I know colors match when they are together, yet they never felt good together to me. With this being a first of feelings of matching colors in a long time, I wasn’t 100% confident in stepping out all matchy.
#takerisksthursday I thought. Let me take a risk and try this out. Lookey here, this is the final product. My beige and RED pin striped shirt, blue, white and RED dress, RED booties and RED heart bag. I felt amazing all day.
Cheers to risks!
Cheers to #takerisksthursday.
In light of my new feelings of matchy, matchy, here are a few matching shoe and bag finds that I came across that we can all share in the world of “matchiness”!
For awhile, I was in fact closed off to matchy, matchy shoes and bags. Yet, my openness to take a risk with them allowed me to take my style in another direction and even give me a bit of a confidence boost. That’s a win, win to me!! Take a leap into something new with your style, whether it is a matchy, matchy look from one of the sets above, or if you’re already matchy, matchy, choose an opposing set from one of the ones above. No matter what style leap you take, do it of course while being,
Unapologetically Me. Unapologetically You. Unapologetically Us.
